Short answer
Yes, Las Vegas can be pricey, and the hotel is the biggest single cost. In our 2026 study, a 4-star room cost a median $139 a night for two, and Saturdays often cost much more. A mid-range trip of 4 nights for two people comes to about $1,391. Flights, room tax and resort fees come on top. Tuesday nights, a 3-star hotel and the Strip bus can cost less: a 3-star night was a median $109, and the bus is $8 a day.
How to do Las Vegas on a budget
- Mid-December was cheapest on our dates. On our mid-December dates, a 4-star room was listed at a median $107 a night, against $203 on our April dates. We did not check Christmas or New Year. December was read 52 days ahead and April 171 days ahead.
- Skip the Saturday night. On our dates, a Tuesday night was cheaper than the Saturday after it in 86% of 4-star pairs. Plan your stay around Tuesday nights, not Saturdays.
- Pick a 3-star hotel. A 3-star night cost a median $109, against $139 for 4-star and $314 for 5-star.
- Buy the 3-day bus pass. The RTC 3-day pass costs $20. Three 24-hour passes cost $24.
- Eat cheap. Guides put a cheap meal at about $20 per person ($10 to $25). A sit-down meal at a mid-range place is about $26.
- See a smaller show. Our Las Vegas shows start at a median $53 per person. Cirque du Soleil shows start at a median $179.
Flights are not in this study, since their price depends on where you fly from. If you gamble, pick a fixed amount before you go and count it as spent.
What a Las Vegas trip costs for two
At mid-range, a 3-night trip costs two people about $1,132. A 4-night trip costs $1,391, and a 5-night trip $1,650, all without flights. Two people sharing a room pay about $825 each for 5 nights on our mid-range plan, before flights, room tax, resort fees and gambling.
Here is the same 4-night trip in three styles, at any time of year. It counts the hotel, 2 meals out per person a day, two shows or tours, a bus pass each night and the airport bus both ways. Room tax and resort fees are not included. All three styles use the same two activities, a Cirque du Soleil show and a Hoover Dam tour, each at its lowest listed price. Only the hotel and meals change.
| Style | Hotel | Eating out | Activities | Buses, airport | Total | Per person per night |

Las Vegas hotel prices by month
A Las Vegas hotel night cost a median $109 at 3-star, $139 at 4-star and $314 at 5-star, per room for two. For 4-star hotels, our December dates were the cheapest ($107 a night) and our April dates the priciest ($203).
On 24 October 2026 we read 1,737 prices of 218 hotels on Google Hotels. Each month from October 2026 to September 2027 got two nights, a Tuesday and a Saturday, for 2 adults sharing a room. The sample holds 47 3-star, 34 4-star and 22 5-star hotels. The other 115 had fewer stars or no star rating on Google. Half of the 546 four-star prices fell between $95 and $210.
By month and star class
Google lists a different set of hotels for each date. So we only compare a month with other months of the same star class. We rank the cheapest and priciest months over the 11 months without a note below. Each month rests on just two nights, so a big event on one of them can move it a lot.
| Month | 3-star | 4-star | 5-star |

| October 2026 read 3 days ahead, not ranked | $77 | $119 | $255 |
| November 2026 | $102 | $149 | $695 |

About these numbers
Medians per room per night for 2 adults, as listed on Google Hotels. These are the prices shown when we looked, not what guests paid in the end. We read every date once, on 24 October 2026, from 3 to 325 days ahead. October 2026 was read at short notice, so it is shown but not ranked. Months were read at different distances from the stay date, which can move prices. A single month holds 23 to 49 prices per star class (23 to 29 at 5-star), so read them as a guide. Medians include a few very low and suite-level listings. Unrated and 2-star hotels are left out.
Saturdays
How we compared weekends
For each month, we set a hotel's Saturday price next to its price on the Tuesday before. A 4-star hotel cost a median 75.6% more on the Saturday. It was pricier in 86% of 233 hotel pairs. For 3-star hotels the median gap was 75.3%, and for 5-star 47.9%. In July and August, the Saturday was dearer for 96% of hotels. The pairs include one short-notice pair in October. By month, the gap ran from -12.8% in October to 135.3% in May. Hotels with no price on one of the two nights are left out. We did not check Fridays or Sundays.
Hotels we looked for
- South Strip Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas
A hotel with its own rooms in the Mandalay Bay tower, with marble bathrooms and views of the Strip and mountains.
- Center Strip Bellagio
A casino resort on the Strip behind the famous fountains, with five courtyard pools and botanical gardens.
- North Strip Wynn Las Vegas
A large casino resort on the north Strip with a spa, oasis-style pools and a shopping arcade.
- Downtown / Fremont Street Circa Resort & Casino
An adults-only casino resort at 8 Fremont Street with a rooftop pool and rooms that all have king beds.
Is it cheaper off the Strip? We did not sort every hotel by area, so we cannot say for all of them. Of the hotels we looked up by name, Bellagio on the Center Strip was listed at a median $403 a night over 23 nights, and Wynn on the North Strip at $556 over 23 nights. Circa Resort & Casino Downtown was $149, but over only 5 nights, most of them Tuesdays. Bellagio's and Wynn's nights were about half Saturdays, and a 4-star Saturday cost a median 75.6% more than the Tuesday before. So these prices do not compare fairly, and three hotels cannot settle it. Star class matters too: a 3-star night cost a median $109, a 5-star night $314. Four Seasons had no price on our dates. How much eating out costs in Las Vegas
A cheap meal in Las Vegas costs about $20 per person per meal, a meal at a mid-range restaurant about $26 and fine dining about $119 per person.
We did not measure these. They are the medians of a small set of prices that guides publish, quoted word for word. We read them all on 24 October 2026. Each source counts once in its group, and the calculator takes the group's median. Tax and tip can come on top.
| Meal | Used in the calculator | Published figures |
|---|---|---|
| Cheap meal per person, per meal: fast casual, food courts and simple places | about $20 median of 2 sources |
|
| Mid-range restaurant per person, per meal: a sit-down meal | about $26 median of 2 sources |
|
| Fine dining per person, per meal: top restaurants on the Strip | about $119 median of 2 sources |

Ways to pay less for food
These tips cost nothing to use. We did not price them, and deals change often, so check the place's own page on the day.
- Happy hour Eat early, at happy hour
Many bars and restaurants on and off the Strip cut prices on drinks and small plates in the late afternoon. A few small plates can make a cheap early dinner.
- Reverse happy hour Or eat late
Some places run a second happy hour late at night, after the dinner rush. It suits a snack after a show.
- Buffets Pick the right buffet time
A buffet charges one price for all you can eat. Lunch and weekday buffets often cost less than dinner or the weekend. One big late brunch can cover two meals.
- Shared plates Share a plate
Resort portions are often big. Two people can share a main dish or a few small plates and still leave full.
- Food courts Walk past the resort restaurants
Casino food courts, food halls and places a few blocks off the Strip cost less than the big resort restaurants.
- Shops Buy water and snacks in a store
Pick up water, snacks and breakfast at a drugstore or grocery store. Hotel shops and minibars charge more for the same things.

Free things to do in Las Vegas
Some of the best sights in Las Vegas cost nothing: the Bellagio fountains, the Fremont Street light show and the famous Welcome sign.
- Free Fountains of Bellagio
Water jets dance to music in the lake in front of Bellagio. Shows run through the afternoon and the evening. Any spot along the Strip railing works.
- Free Bellagio Conservatory
A glass hall of flowers and plants, just off the hotel lobby. The display changes with the seasons.
- Free Fremont Street Experience
A huge screen roof covers five blocks Downtown. Light and music shows play on it in the evening, and street acts fill the walk below.
- Free Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign
The classic sign stands at the south end of the Strip, with its own small parking lot. Come early to skip the photo line.
- Free Flamingo Wildlife Habitat
Pink flamingos, ducks and turtles live in a garden behind the Flamingo hotel. It is a calm break from the casinos.
- Free, car needed Seven Magic Mountains
Tall stacks of bright painted rocks stand in the desert south of town. There is no bus, so you need a car or a tour.
Walking the Strip at night is free too. These sights are free to see, but they are not part of our measured data, so check before you go. Plan for heat in summer and bring water.
How much a rental car costs in Las Vegas
Rental sites put the average daily price of a rental car in Las Vegas at $49 to $77, with $54 in the middle. They do not say which car or dates.
We did not measure these. They are base daily rates that rental sites publish, before fees, tax and fuel, and they depend on your dates and the car. Budget, mid-range and comfort take the lowest, middle and highest of the three averages. They do not mean different car classes. Our default trip has no car.

Do you need a car? On the Strip you rarely do: the Deuce bus and your feet reach most places. For a taxi from the airport to the Strip, the Nevada Taxicab Authority gives an approximate minimum fare of just over $22 for the South Strip to just over $30 for the North Strip. Time of day, route and traffic can make the meter run higher. The further north your hotel, the higher the fare. A fee of $2.40 per airport pick-up, a fuel surcharge, a state tax, a card fee and the tip come on top. We did not check Uber or Lyft prices. They change with the time and the demand. A car may pay off for day trips to Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire or the Hoover Dam. Ask your hotel what it charges for parking.
Room tax, buses and the airport
For the main casino area (the Primary Gaming Corridor), the City of Las Vegas says: "Locations inside this area are subject to a room tax rate of 13.38%." Many hotels also add a resort fee. Hotels describe it as a charge per room, for each night, on top of the room rate. Each hotel sets its own fee and says what it covers on its own site. We did not save a hotel page on it, so read your hotel's own terms. We did not measure resort fees, and our totals leave out both the tax and the fee. So your hotel bill may be higher than the hotel line. Check the full total at the last step before you book.

What we measured ourselves
- Hotels: 1,737 prices of 218 hotels on Google Hotels, read on 24 October 2026. One Tuesday and one Saturday night per month, October 2026 to September 2027, 2 adults, one room; paid ads, listings without a price and duplicates left out. These are the prices advertised for those dates when we read them, not what guests later paid. Months are compared within a star class because Google shows a different set of hotels for each date. October 2026 was read at short notice; both are shown but not ranked.
- Activities: the "from" prices of the 162 tours and tickets on our 31 activity pages (the table above), as shown on GetYourGuide on 24 October 2026; the calculator offers 12 tours, one per activity page (2 of them from pages with too few per-person prices for the table). A "from" price is the lowest option a listing offers, not a typical price.
What we cite
- Meals, drinks and car hire: figures published by travel guides, food-tour companies and rental platforms, found in Google results in the United States and quoted word for word with their date. A range counts with its midpoint, each source once per group. Each tier rests on only a few sources, so treat the meal prices as a rough guide. A price band such as "Under $25" counts as its upper limit. The cheap and mid-range ranges overlap. No figures from forums or social media. None comes from a page that shows a date in 2022 or earlier; many pages show no date at all.
- Room tax, fares: the City of Las Vegas, RTC Southern Nevada.
How the calculator adds up
- Our default trip: 4 nights, two people in one room, mid-range, at the median 4-star price across all the nights we read. Half of those nights are Tuesdays and half Saturdays, so a trip of Tuesday nights costs less and a trip over a Saturday more. It includes Las Vegas: “O” by Cirque du Soleil at Bellagio and the Las Vegas: 3-Hour VIP Hoover Dam Small-Group Mini Tour at their lowest listed prices, and no car. The calculator counts per night, so 4 nights means 4 days of meals and bus passes.
- Hotel: nights × rooms (one per two travellers) × the median for the style's star class in that month (or the whole year).
- Eating out: nights × travellers × meals a day at the style's meal price; in comfort, one fine dinner a day and the other meals at mid-range prices.
- Car: days × the style's daily price. Activities: the from-price per person or per group.
- Room tax and resort fees: not included in the totals. That does not mean there is no tax. The room tax is a share of the room rate, and many hotels add a resort fee each night. We do not know if the Google Hotels prices we read include them, and we did not measure resort fees. Check the full price with your hotel.
- Transport: nights × people × the RTC 24-hour Strip pass ($8). For 4 nights, a 3-day pass plus one 24-hour pass ($28 per person) costs less than four 24-hour passes ($32). The calculator still counts a 24-hour pass for each night, so the bus line is a little high on longer trips. Airport: two rides per person on RTC's local airport bus at $2 each. It is not a ride to the Strip itself. The bus runs on Paradise Road, east of the Strip, so most Strip hotels need a walk or a second bus. A taxi to the Strip costs more: an approximate minimum fare of just over $22 to just over $30 per car, says the Nevada Taxicab Authority (read 25 October 2026), plus fees and a fuel surcharge. We did not check ride-app prices.
Each line is rounded to whole dollars.

Las Vegas trip costs: questions
How much does a trip to Las Vegas cost?
A mid-range trip of 4 nights costs two people about $1,391. That covers a 4-star hotel, two meals out a day, two shows or tours, a bus pass and the airport bus. On a budget it is about $1,175, in comfort about $2,835. Flights, room tax and resort fees are extra. Work out your own trip.
What is a good budget for a Vegas trip?
Plan on about $174 per person for each night on a 4-night mid-range trip, with two people sharing a room. For 3 to 7 nights it is $155 to $189, since some costs are paid once. On a budget it is about $147, and in comfort about $354. Add room tax, resort fees, flights and any gambling money on top.
Is a thousand dollars enough for four days in Vegas?
Not for two people. Even our budget style comes to about $1,175 for two for 4 nights, before flights, room tax and resort fees. For one person on a budget, it can be. Alone, you pay the whole room: $436 for 4 nights at 3-star. Add our two tours ($173), two cheap meals a day at about $20, a bus pass each day ($8) and the airport bus ($4 both ways). Together that comes to under a thousand dollars for one person. Set one traveller and the budget style in the calculator to see the exact sum. Room tax and resort fees come on top and can take some of the rest. Flights are extra too. Work out your own trip.
What's the cheapest month to go to Vegas?
On our dates, mid-December was the cheapest for a 4-star hotel, at a median $107 a night. April was the priciest, at $203. We did not check Christmas or New Year. Of the 11 months we rank, December was also cheapest for 3-star hotels ($92). October 2026, read 3 days ahead, was $77 but is not ranked. We read two nights per month, so one event can shift a month.
How much does a meal cost in Vegas?
Guides put a cheap meal at about $20 per person ($10 to $25), a meal at a mid-range restaurant at about $26 and fine dining at about $119 per person. These come from a small set of published sources, not our own checks. Tax and tip can come on top. See the sources.
Is Las Vegas expensive to visit?
It can be, and the hotel is the biggest single cost. A 4-star night cost a median $139 for two in our study, and Saturdays often cost much more. Shows and tours add up fast too. But many sights are free, and the Strip buses cost $8 a day.
Is it cheaper to stay on the Strip or off the Strip in Las Vegas?
We cannot say from our sample. We did not sort every hotel by area, and the few hotels we looked up by name are not a fair match. Circa Resort & Casino Downtown was listed at a median $149 a night, but over only 5 nights, most of them Tuesdays. On the Strip, Bellagio was $403 and Wynn $556, over 23 nights each, about half of them Saturdays. A 4-star Saturday cost a median 75.6% more than the Tuesday before, so the mix of nights alone moves these prices. The star class matters too: a 3-star night cost a median $109 against $314 at 5-star. To compare, check a Strip hotel and a Downtown hotel for the same nights. The Deuce bus links the Strip and Downtown. Where to stay in Las Vegas.
Why is Las Vegas so expensive?
Hotel prices were higher on Saturdays. In our study, the same 4-star hotel cost more on a Saturday than on the Tuesday before it in 86% of pairs. On top of the room rate come a room tax and, at many hotels, a resort fee each night.
How much are resort fees in Las Vegas, and what do they cover?
We did not measure resort fees, so we give no amount. Hotels describe a resort fee as a charge per room, for each night, that they add on top of the room rate. Many Las Vegas hotels charge one. Each hotel sets its own fee and lists what it covers on its own site, so read your hotel's terms. We did not save a hotel page on it. The room tax comes on top as well: "Locations inside this area are subject to a room tax rate of 13.38%." (City of Las Vegas, for the main casino area). Our hotel prices and trip totals leave out both. Before you book, check the full total at the last step, with all fees and tax.
How do you get from the airport to the Strip cheaply?
RTC's local bus from the airport costs $2 a ride. It runs on Paradise Road, east of the Strip, so you may need to walk or take a second bus. Getting around Las Vegas.
How much does a taxi or Uber cost in Las Vegas, and do I need a rental car?
For a taxi from the airport to the Strip, the Nevada Taxicab Authority gives an approximate minimum fare of just over $22 for the South Strip to just over $30 for the North Strip. Time of day, route and traffic can make the meter run higher. The further north your hotel, the higher the fare. A fee of $2.40 per airport pick-up, a fuel surcharge, a state tax, a card fee and the tip come on top. On the meter, a taxi costs $8.21 for the first mile and $2.96 for each mile after that, plus waiting time in traffic. We did not check Uber or Lyft prices. They change with the time and the demand. You rarely need a car on the Strip: the Deuce bus costs $8 for a day pass, and most places are within walking distance. A car may pay off for day trips to Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire. Rental sites put the average daily price at about $54, before fees and fuel.
