Las Vegas off-road tours: per person or per vehicle?

ATV tours in Las Vegas start from €97, and the full day costs from €298. Two prices are per vehicle, so read the table closely.

Adrenaline Mountain UTV€214VehicleYes, private

How to choose: guided, self-guided, ATV or UTV

Pick a guided tour if you are new to off-roading, or a rental if you want your own pace.

On a guided tour, a guide leads the way and gives a safety talk. On a rental, you get a briefing and ride alone. The drive-yourself ride adds a practice lap first.

Rules for drivers differ. The rental lets drivers 16 and up ride with a valid ID. The Eldorado Canyon tours need drivers 16 and up with a valid driver's license.

The guided desert ride from Mandalay Bay is not for anyone under 18, the listing says.

ATV, UTV, RZR or buggy: which vehicle

An ATV seats one rider, who steers with handlebars. A UTV, or RZR, is a side-by-side buggy with a steering wheel and 2 or 4 seats.

A UTV lets a friend or child ride with you. On the Eldorado Canyon tour you choose a single ATV, a 2-seat RZR or a 4-seat RZR.

Where the tours ride: Eldorado Canyon, Adrenaline Mountain and the desert

Our six picks ride in three places: Eldorado Canyon, Adrenaline Mountain and the desert south of the Strip.

Two rides start at 10500 Clark R. Petersen Blvd, south of the Strip. The guided desert ride leaves from Mandalay Bay.

Eldorado Canyon

Two tours ride in Eldorado Canyon. One adds an 1861 ghost town, and the full day adds a gold mine.

There is no gas, food or charging at the meeting point, the full-day listing says. Come prepared if you drive.

Adrenaline Mountain

The private UTV trip rides custom trails through the Yellow Pine Mines. It has climate-controlled buildings with chilled water and coffee, the listing says.

Dunes near Las Vegas

The 2-hour rental lets you ride rocky desert trails or soft sand dunes, its listing says.

Nellis Dunes, north of the city off I-15 at exit 58, is public land with sand and dunes, Nevada's off-highway vehicle site says. It has no camping or facilities, and no tour on our list goes there.

What it costs and what is included

Prices start from €97 per person for the guided desert ride, or €97 per vehicle for the 2-hour rental. The full day costs from €298 per person.

The private Adrenaline Mountain trip costs from €214 per vehicle, with hotel pickup.

Safety gear is included on every tour, and most add goggles. Water is included on the guided tours.

Tips are not included on most tours. The drive-yourself ride also sells gloves, gaiters and lockers as extras.

What to wear, bring and expect on the day

Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Sandals are not allowed on the guided desert ride.

Bring an ID. The Eldorado Canyon tours need a driver's license for anyone who drives.

Tours run rain or shine, the guided ride and the rental say. Expect dust: goggles come with most rides.
