Best Time to Visit Las Vegas: Weather, Prices, Trips
The best time to visit Las Vegas is March to May or October to November, when normal highs run from 71°F to 89°F in spring and from 67°F to 81°F in the fall. The cheapest month for a 4-star hotel in our price study was December, and the hottest months, June to September, reach 95°F to 105°F. Spring is a little cooler early and warms fast, with March at 71°F and May at 89°F. Fall starts warm at 81°F in October and cools to 67°F in November, so spring ends hotter than fall begins. Below you pick the month by weather, by price and by the trips you want.
Here is the quick plan, step by step. Each step below has the details.
| Step | What to do | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Decide what matters most | Weather, price and crowds rarely agree |
| 2 | Check the weather by season | June to September reaches 95°F to 105°F |
| 3 | Compare hotel prices by month | December was cheapest, April priciest |
| 4 | Use spring and fall for desert trips | Valley of Fire closes December 1 to 14 |
| 5 | Plan around summer heat and winter cold | Pool days need shade, winter nights are near 40°F |
Step 1: Decide what matters most for your best time to visit Las Vegas
The best month depends on whether you want mild weather, a low hotel price or the pool. No single month wins all three. The mild months of spring and fall are not the cheapest, and the cheapest month is cool at night.
Start with the question you care about most. Ask yourself three things. How hot can you stand it? How much do you want to pay for a room? Do you plan desert trips? Your answers point to a season in the next steps.
Pro Tip Write down your three dates before you search hotels. Moving a trip by one week can change the weather more than moving it by one month.
Step 2: Check the weather for the best months to visit Las Vegas
The mild months are March to May and October to November. The National Weather Service normals for 1991 to 2020 put the average daily high at 71°F in March, 78°F in April and 89°F in May. In October the high is 81°F and in November 67°F.
Summer is the hard part. The normal high is 99°F in June, 105°F in July, 103°F in August and 95°F in September. The same source lists a record of 120°F on July 7, 2024. From December to February the high is 57°F to 63°F, and the low falls to about 40°F.
A normal is an average, not a forecast. Any single week can run hotter or cooler. For a day-by-day packing list, read our Las Vegas weather guide.
Step 3: Compare hotel prices by month to find the cheapest time
December was the cheapest month for a 4-star hotel in Las Vegas, and April was the priciest. The 2026 Las Vegas Travel Cost Study behind las vegas on a budget checked 4-star room prices for two people month by month, from October 2026 to September 2027. The December 2026 median was the lowest of the 11 months it ranked, and the April 2027 median was the highest.
The gap between the two is large. A room in April can cost close to twice as much as the same kind of room in December. Prices for October 2026 are left out of the ranking, because those dates were too close to the day the study checked.
The study does not explain why April costs more. Do not assume a reason. Check your own dates, because a single event weekend can move a price a lot. December is the cheapest, but a cheap month is not the same as a quiet one, since no crowd data was read.
Key Takeaway For a 4-star hotel, December 2026 had the lowest median price in the study and April 2027 the highest, so a December stay can cost far less than an April one.
If the room is the biggest part of your budget, also read where to stay. The where to stay page shows the areas of the Strip and Downtown, and the resort fee guide explains the extra charge many hotels add on top of the nightly price.
Step 4: Use spring and fall for desert day trips
March to May and October to November are the months for the desert. The heat is low enough to walk for hours, and the park trails are open. If you want a trip out of the city, see the national park tours Las Vegas page for the full list.
Valley of Fire is the clearest example. The Nevada Division of State Parks says the park closes every year from December 1 through December 14. It also says many trails are closed from May 15 to September 30. So the park is fully open for hiking in the spring and in most of the fall.
A small-group option is the Valley of Fire guided hike with drinks and snacks, from €115 per person. The listing shows a 4 to 6 hour trip run by Love Hikes with a rating of 4.9 from 570 reviews, for up to 12 people. Children under 8 and pregnant women are not suitable, as the listing states.
Plans change with the weather, so booking flexibly matters. Things to Do in Las Vegas's count of GetYourGuide listings in October 2026 found 52 of the 57 day trips from Las Vegas (91%) offer free cancellation, so a date can be booked before the plan is fixed. Read the terms on each listing, because the cutoff time is set per trip.
Step 5: Plan around summer heat and winter cold
Summer and winter both work if you plan the day around the temperature. In summer, outdoor fun is still possible if you go early and spend the afternoon indoors or at the pool. Valley of Fire closes many trails from May 15 to September 30 because of the heat, so summer hiking there is not an option. In winter, wear layers, because the evenings fall to about 40°F.
Water trips fit the warm months. The Emerald Cave guided kayaking tour, from €128 per person, is a 4-hour trip with transportation from Las Vegas, rated 4.9 from 479 reviews. It is run by River Dogz, for up to 20 people, and the listing says it is weather-dependent, and lunch and tips are not included. Children under 6 are not suitable. The listing does not name a meeting point; it says pickup is included, so check availability for details.
The cool season suits the night sky. The mountain stargazing evening, from €89 per person, is a private trip for up to 2 people, rated 4.9 from 49 reviews, with a telescope and a campfire. It runs 5 hours, starts at a meeting point in Las Vegas, with no hotel pickup, and the listing says it is weather-dependent.
The month you choose shapes the trip more than the hotel you pick.
If you would rather stay in town, you can also look at Las Vegas shows in any month, because they run indoors all year. Shows are the same price-and-weather safe choice for a July afternoon or a January night.
Prices and ratings above are as of October 2026.
When the best time to visit Las Vegas is not what the numbers say
The numbers fit a typical visitor and may not fit you. A pool trip can be right in July, and a February trip can feel cold if you plan to sit outside at night. The study measured hotel prices only on the dates it checked, and we could not read how crowded each month is. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority lists yearly figures, such as a 2025 average of $184 a night and 80.3% hotel occupancy, but no month-by-month crowd data. The same authority posts a monthly tourism summary, which we did not find figures in, so the quietest and busiest months are not confirmed here.
If crowds matter to you, check the dates of big events and conventions for your week before you book. That goes for Christmas and New Year too, because no source here gives holiday prices or crowds.
Match a trip to the month you picked
These three picks fit different seasons, from a stargazing evening at from €89 per person to a kayak trip at from €128 per person. All three list free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. Is a tour worth it? For Valley of Fire, driving yourself costs less: the state park charges $15 per out-of-state vehicle, but you need a car, you plan the route and you carry your own water, while the guided hike adds a guide, round-trip transport from Las Vegas, drinks and snacks, so it is worth it if you do not want to drive or rent a car. The kayak trip is hard to do alone, because the guide handles transport and equipment. Check each listing for pickup details, since two of the three do not give a meeting point on the page, and tips are not included.
